Memorial weekend, the Varsity team travelled to Rexburg to compete in the Madison Summer Tournament. There were 16 teams consisting of five team from the Treasure Valley and the rest from the East side of the state. Rocky Mountain competed against Highland, Hillcrest, Idaho Falls, Blackfoot, Skyline and Madison and finished the tournament going 4-2 overall with solid victories over Highland, Idaho Falls, Blackfoot and Madison. We lost to Hillcrest earlier on Friday and to Skyline on a last second tip-in in OT on Saturday.
The trip was another example of an opportunity for us to come together as a team, play together, and really set the tempo for the summer and the upcoming season. Leading the way this weekend were our returning seniors, Riley Bruneel, Ryan "Squirt" Skurdal, Levi Altringer, Big Jim Bagley, and Bryson Rodgers. The new comers to the varsity level each contributed in a positive way and will continue to develop throughout the summer. Newbies included Blain Moorhouse, Ben Kotzian, Spencer Dykman, and Chris Barfuss.
At Centennial, we went 3-2 overall, beating Bishop Kelly, Capital, and Eagle. Again, the boys hustled and played outstanding defense, mainly against Eagle, whom we beat by 22 points! Our next Summer Tournament is this week at Vallivue, June 17, 18, and 19. Check out the Summer Tournament Calendar to see game times and sites.
